3D Printing Pen Calder Self Portraits

This is a take on the wire Calder portraits I've seen. I was sent this 3D printing pen by Ohuhu to try in exchange for an honest review. I've wanted to try one of these pens for awhile, they look really neat! There isn't a ton of information out there about them yet, but I expect they will take off soon!

The pen plugs into an outlet and takes less then a minute to heat up. The tip gets REALLY hot! You feed the plastic filament in through the top and press the down button to bring it to the tip. You can adjust the speed on the side of the pen. For this project, I kept it at the fastest setting and it worked really well. I thought this pen was really fun to use! It could get pretty expensive in a classroom since it eats up the filament pretty fast. It would be fun to have a few of them to let the students experiment with!

1.) To set up, you need the 3D pen, a photo, filament, and a sheet of plastic (like overhead paper). Plug the pen in and let it heat up.

2.) Feed the filament into the pen and start tracing! It's ok if it looks a little messy!

3.) Make sure all of the parts are connected (no free floating eyes!).

3.) Pick the portrait up! It can be attached to paper, or hung up like a mobile!
