Heart Repousse

Materials: tagboard squares, metal squares, cardboard, scissors, black construction paper, glue or double-sided tape, permanent markers, colored pencils

1.) Students created heart stencils out of tagboard. They traced a 5'' x 5'' square in their sketchbooks and created 2 different compositions with their stencils (having some of the hearts go outside of the square.) They chose one composition and cut it out.

2.) They traced their design onto the metal square, keeping a sheet of cardboard below it.

3.) Using the end of a paintbrush, they pressed hearts in from the front...

4.) Then pressed others in from the back.

5.) We used double-sided tape to attach the metal to a black construction paper square. They students used sharpie markers on the metal and colored pencils on the black paper to extend the hearts.
