Here are a few activities that I do the first week of school:
1. I write different things on an 18" x 24" sheet of paper (art is, art is not, we need art because, I like art because...) and have the students add a post-it with their comments. This is easily adaptable for a variety of lessons and the students love doing it!
2. We make nametags. I have the students write their names on the front and back of a folded sheet of heavy paper. They decorate the nametags with things that they like.
3. My students have a weaving project that they work on throughout their time with me. They LOVE weaving!! I give them a little bit of extra credit when they finish one. They work on this if they get to class early or finish the project early.
