Materials: clay, hot air balloon template, rolling pin, wooden stick, underglaze, glaze
1.) I printed a hot air balloon on tagboard and cut it out to make a stencil. We cut these out using slabs of terra cotta clay.
2.) Lightly press the center piece of the balloon onto the clay. Paint around it using underglaze.
3.) Trace around the stencil with a stick tool.
4.) Carefully peel up the stencil and paint the inside of the balloon.
5.) Using a stick tool, draw patterns into the balloon section. The basket was created by pressing clay into the textured mat below and cutting it into a rectangle. Poke holes in the bottom of the balloon and the basket and attach them with ribbon after firing.
This balloon was finished with clear glaze
