Materials: Clay, rolling pins, egg template, ruler, underglaze, carving tool, clear overglaze
.) Roll out a slab that's about 1/4'' thick. Use the egg template to cut an egg shape.
.) With a ruler and a wooden carving tool, carefully (without pressing through the clay) divide the egg into sections.
.) Paint each section with underglaze.
.) Using the carving tool, carve designs into the underglaze.
.) Let the clay stiffen up a bit until the underglaze is no longer tacky. Form the clay around a plaster mold or wadded up newspaper.
.) Attach coil or ball feet to the bottom of the egg.
.) Bisque fire, then clear glaze, then fire again.
