We do "mini project Fridays" every week in my art room. They are usually one day projects that are just for a fun and not for a grade. The students really enjoy doing them! It also creates more flexibility in my schedule in case we have snow days or assemblies.
It's a way for me to
1.) catch students up who were absent
2.) sneak some art history in
3.) let the kids be creative without worrying about a grade
Materials: I give the students 1''-2'' strips of red, yellow, blue and black construction paper and any size white paper squares. I tell them they can do whatever they want using only this paper and scissors and glue. I throw in some fancy scissors and hole punches also. The results are always fun and unique!
